Joe Spinoza

Joe Spinoza is a London-born and Birmingham-based Classical and Jazz pianist and singer. At 14, Joe gained a scholarship under the pianoMan scheme, studying in London under concert pianist Richard Meyrick. Joe was offered a scholarship to study Classical Piano at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015.

Joe was offered a scholarship to study Classical Piano at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2015. In 2019, Joe gained his BMus(Hons), having studied under Philip Martin and Alasdair Beatson. From 2019-20 Joe studied Jazz singing and piano at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Brigitte Beraha, Lee Gibson, Sara Colman and Nikki Isles, gaining his MMus(Jazz).

Currently Joe is writing his PhD thesis on performer interaction in jazz piano-vocal duos at the University of Birmingham. As a composer, Joe has frequently served as a guest speaker at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Young Composers Project, and regularly undertakes professional commissions spanning Classical, Jazz and Popular music, with his writing often being led by the influence of his synesthesia. He cites Impressionism and West-Coast Jazz as his main compositional influences. As a pianist, Joe enjoys performing the works of Ravel and the orchestral transcriptions of Liszt, alongside developed practical and academic engagement with the keyboard works of Muzio Clementi. Joe regularly performs across the UK in various ensembles and enjoys solo work as a pianist-singer.
