
JAMES MACKINDER
James is currently in his final undergraduate year at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (RBC) studying Clarinet with Joanna Patton, Oliver Janes, and Douglas Mitchell; E-flat Clarinet with Anna Hashimoto; and Bass Clarinet with Mark O’Brien.
James continues to perform with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestra performing a variety of repertoire including;
Shostakovich: Symphony No. 7 (Leningrad), Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring, and Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks. He also received a place on the CBSO Training Scheme back in October 2019, working side-by-side in rehearsals with clarinettists of the CBSO.
Most recently James won the RBC Woodwind Prize and was a finalist of the Orchestra of the Swan (OOTS) Concerto Prize, and the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) Concerto Prize playing alongside Thomas Gant, performing Krommer: Concerto for Two Clarinets Op. 35.
Outside of Birmingham, James remains in touch with his earliest passion; Musical Theatre, where he both sings and plays for the Northern Musical Theatre Orchestra (NMTO).
