A Moment is a spoken word piece created to reassure the performer and the audience that it is okay to be taking a moment for yourself to reground and centre yourself again. As a working student I am used to being very busy and not allowing myself to have a break.
I wanted to create a piece that could capture the space and time that is needed to relax. I also wanted this physical score to ensure that the performers were allowing themselves time during the performance, both to enhance the performance experience for the audience and for the performers themselves.
I have been more experimental by using spoken work in my compositions. As someone who is not very confident performing my own pieces when they are instrumental, I have found that using spoken word has opened many opportunities with regards to my composition.
I find it calming and almost a way of meditation to create these spoken word art pieces.
